Vastu Shastra Main Door

What is Vastu?

According to Hindu religious beliefs, Vastu is technique and style for designing the house keeping in mind certain directional aspects. Some common beliefs according to Vastu Shastra are as follows:

The main entrance door of the house should be constructed a bit larger than all the other doors available inside the house. It is always better to construct a couple of entrance doors for the house. However, it is to be kept in mind that among the two entrance doors, the main one should be constructed much larger than the other one available. The two entrance doors should be located exactly following the same straight line. The main entrance door of the house can be decorated with a Swastika marked symbol or an OM symbol. This indicates good luck and protection from all evils. Certain times, figures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses like Kuber, Ganesh and Lakshmi are also placed at the exterior portion of the main entrance door of the house. According to Vastu, this helps in bringing good luck to the entire family residing within the house.

Vastu also recommends that no violent picture or figurine should be kept inside the house neither should they be fitted at the doors. This lets bad fortune befall on the house holder as well on the entire family.

While designing and constructing the main entrance door, it should be kept in mind that the shutters of the doors open up towards the inside of the house. This is necessary in order to welcome the guests coming from outside. The main entrance doors should have two shutters acting over it. According to the Vastu, the material that is preferred for construction of the main entrance door should be high quality wood like teak, mahogany, etc. The construction should be done in such a way that no sort of any shadows fall over the door. It must not open up to any sort of wall structure. In order to have the main door placed correctly, the house should be divided into nine vital parts.

The fourth divisional part that is situated fourth in the series is the best one to let the major entrance door get placed. According to the Vastu, a common door should not be used as an entrance gate for two separate houses. Also, it is recommended that two oppositely situated house should not face entrance doors directly opposite to each other. The main entrance door should not be situated facing the south. It is also said that the front door of the house should face no demolished or abandoned property. The main site entrance and the main entrance door of the house id placed at the same direction, then prosperity showers (according to Vastu belief). The result may hinder and change in an adverse way if the door and entrance are placed at an opposite direction.

The main entrance of the house is required to be placed facing either the west or even the east direction. During the time of construction, it is advised that the height of the south and west sides should be higher than the east and north sides.
The north and eastern surrounding of the house should have plenty of open spaces. And remember, no tall trees should be present at that part of the surrounding. This will act as a barrier and will prevent the positive source of energy from entering into the house. If you want some sort of tree to let planted inside the house on those directions, then small plants can be planted on the pots. Bonsais can also be used for the purpose. These are ideal to be kept at the side of the entrance doors of the house.

There are several areas inside a house which are believed to be strong holder of free flowing energies. These areas are known according to Vastu Shastra as Marmas. According to the Shastra, these areas should be kept free from diversion and distraction in order to let the energy flow in a balanced and proper manner. There is an amorphous center known by the Vastu name of Nishkala, which is located within the building. This place is said to be a strong holder of energy. Due to this reason, this place is mostly used to construct as the lobby or the living room. And the bedrooms are constructed surrounding this area in the most strategic way.

During the construction of a house, there are certain directions that need to be followed for the construction of the inner rooms. The bedroom should be south directional, while the puja room should be constructed at the north-eastern side of the house. Western part of the house is ideal to use as dining room while the northern part is ideal to use as treasury room. If you want to have a separate library or even a study room, then the best side according to Vastu is South-West. The bathroom should be located at the eastern part of the house while the store can be ideal to construct at the north western part. The kitchen is considered one of the most important places of a house. Therefore, it should be located at the south eastern part of the house building structure.

Now let us have a look at the sleeping directions that need to be followed according to Vastu Shastra:

  • According to Vastu, while you sleep your head should face towards the south. This should be your regular sleeping position.
  • According to belief, these sorts of head position during sleep helps in increasing the prosperity and wealth within the household. Moreover, a sound sleep is achieved.
  • If one sleeps with the head facing the east, then better concentration and sharper memory can be achieved.

The head resting position facing north or west are strongly avoided according to Vastu Shastra. These two positions are responsible to cause frequent nightmares, illness and frequent interruption in sleeping activity. It has been also said that while sleeping with head facing the west direction may lead a person to adopt a violent nature.
