The founding of Tirupati and its growth is closely associated with the celebrated shrine at Tirumala. The Tirupati Municipality was constituted , and the metre gauge railway line from Pakala to Gudur via TIRUPATI was laid.
As per the provisions made under section 13(1) of A. P. Urban areas (Dev) Act 1975. , Tirupati Urban Development area was notified with Tirupati town and villages around spreading over mandals namely Tirupati Urban, Tirupati rural, Renigunta and Chandragiri Mandals in G. O. Ms. No. 1178/MA. , dated 6-11-81. As per the Provisions made under section 6 (1) of Andhra Pradesh Urban Areas (Development) Act, 1975 this authority shall prepare a master plan for the development area. The Government in G. O. Ms No. 1123 MA dated 13-10-81 has approved an outline development plan for Tirupati town and Villages around.
The Authority in its resolution has approved to assign the preparation of structure plan for the entire region and revision of master plan for Tirupati town duly incorporating the state of the art techniques like digitisation, Aerial photographs and satellite imageries. The Authority has also approved to constitute a scrutiny committee to monitor and evaluate the preparation of master plan
