Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai also known as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was established in 1873 as a local governing body of the city. It aims at providing not only qualitative community services but also maintaining them with time. Mumbai Municipal Corporation not only takes care of basic infrastructure facilities like roads and flyovers but also manages schools, hospitals, sewage system and supplying sufficient water supply to all.
Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation also launches various programs related to improvement in public health facilities in order to create awareness and prevent the spread of diseases during epidemics and natural disasters. Brihanmumbai Mhanagarpalika Corporation has authority over the urban property and regulates property and house tax and through the taxes, it maintains beautiful beaches, parks and public places of the city, takes special care of coastal safety, and has the provision of lifeguards and lighthouse at every beach. The Mumbai Municipal Corp has divided the city into different Municipal wards, which addresses the problem of every distinct ward. |
