Kerala State Housing Board

Kerala State Housing Board is responsible for organized direction, planning, & implementation of housing & improvement schemes within the state boundaries of Kerala. The Board was constituted as per GOK Act 19, 1971. For the last 37 years, Kerala State Housing Board has been involved with planning, implementation, and constitution of different housing schemes (164 in total).

Kerala State Housing Board is governed by a Chairman, as well as some official and non-official members. The official members are appointed by Kerala Government. The non-official members are nominated by Government of Kerala. The Kerala State Housing Board comprises of 17 members that includes Chairman, Housing Commissioner, Official Members (4 in nos.), & Non-Official Members (11 in nos.). Chairman is the ex-officio while Housing Commissioner, secretary to ex-officio.

There are altogether 39 offices of the Kerala State Housing Board all throughout the state. The Head Office of Kerala State Housing Board is situated in the beautiful city of Thiruvananthapuram. The regional offices are situated at Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kozhikode. Kerala State is divided into a total of 14 districts. Each district features a division office of Kerala State Housing Board.

There are also 2 Project Divisions in Kochi and Trivandrum.Other places also feature branch offices. A total of 175 engineers work for Technical Wing of the Board. Technical Wing is headed by the Chief Engineer. A total of 350 officers & staffs work for Ministerial Wing of the Board. It is headed by the Additional Secretary.

As mentioned earlier, in the last 37 years, Kerala State Housing Board has constructed 164 residential housing schemes comprising of 12310 units (flats) in total. These units are sub categorized according to people of different earning group. The Board has also constructed 7 Renting House projects comprising of 1835 units for employees of State Government. The Board has also developed a total of 105 Housing Complexes (3600 units) for the financially weaker section of society. Apart from public housing projects, the Board has also constructed twenty-five office-cum-commercial complexes, and three hostels for working women. Kerala State Housing Board had been associated with AHADS project (Attappadi, Palakkad) and rehabilitation of earthquake victims at Lathur, Maharashtra.

Kerala State Housing Board is considered to be the most important organization in the state. In these 37 years, it has provided suitable assistance to approximately 6.5 lakhs of people for construction of residential homes, commercial properties, and office buildings. Around 4.75 lakhs sq. ft. area has been used for these projects.
